About
Yunotsu (Yuno-tsu) is one of Japan's most unusual hot spring towns — a tiny fishing port village that has been drawing bathers to its mineral springs since the 8th century, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine cultural landscape. The springs here are weakly radioactive radium springs (like the famous Misasa Onsen in Tottori), believed by devotees to have therapeutic effects on joint and circulatory conditions. Nishimuraya is a quiet traditional inn in the historic village, offering tatami rooms, simple seasonal Shimane cooking, and direct access to the village's distinctive communal bathhouses where locals still bathe daily alongside travelers. The surrounding area includes the Iwami Ginzan mine ruins.
