About

Amanohashidate is one of Japan's Nihon Sankei — the Three Views of Japan — a 3.6km sandbar pine forest across the mouth of Miyazu Bay in northern Kyoto Prefecture. Viewed from the hillside through spread legs (matanozoki), the sandbar appears to float in the air like a path through the sky. Shienbou is the finest traditional inn at this iconic location, offering direct waterfront views over the sandbar, kaiseki featuring Wakasa Bay seafood, and an atmosphere of refined Japanese aesthetics appropriate to one of the country's great scenic landmarks. The inn's position on the bay's edge means morning mist and changing light over the pine forest create a different scene through every season and hour.
