History
Iki Island was described in 3rd-century Chinese historical records and is considered the fifth island created by the gods in Japanese mythology. The island is home to over 150 Shinto shrines, 280 kofun burial mounds, and the ancient Harunotsuji settlement — one of the largest Yayoi-period sites discovered in Japan. IKI RETREAT's Yunomoto Hot Springs have been treasured for over 1,700 years and are traditionally associated with fertility and healing. The property was recognized in the Michelin Guide Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki 2019 as a 5-Pavilion ryokan (the highest luxury designation).
