History
Obama Onsen's history stretches back to 713 AD, documented in the ancient Hizen Fudoki provincial records. The area sits on the Shimabara Peninsula above an active volcanic magma reservoir, producing some of Japan's hottest spring sources at 105°C. Iseya has been a part of this centuries-old hot spring tradition, recently reimagined through its complete 2019 rebuild that brought the property into the modern era while maintaining its deep connection to the Obama Onsen heritage of geothermal healing.
