About
Wajima is the cultural heart of the Noto Peninsula — a dramatic, remote arm of land extending into the Sea of Japan from Ishikawa Prefecture. The town is famous for Wajima nuri (Wajima lacquerware), one of Japan's most refined craft traditions, and the Asaichi morning market operating daily since the 11th century. The surrounding Noto coastline is dramatic: the Senmaida terraced rice fields at sunset, the ancient cedar forest of Shiroyama, and the Soji-ji Temple complex (headquarters of the Soto Zen school). Hotel Hana no Shizuku offers onsen bathing, seafood kaiseki featuring Noto's exceptional sustainable fishery catches (yellowtail, sea urchin), and a warm base for exploring this UNESCO-designated creative city.
