About
Kusatsu Onsen is Japan's most celebrated hot spring town — its centerpiece the Yubatake (hot spring field), a large wooden channel structure where hot spring water emerges at 95°C and is cooled by the famous yumomi paddle ceremony before bathing. The spring's intense acidity (pH 2.1) is renowned for its bactericidal properties, and Kusatsu's waters are considered the most powerful hot springs in Japan. This ryokan sits near the Yubatake center of town, offering traditional Japanese hospitality, tatami rooms, and in-house baths drawing from the same volcanic source. Evenings at Kusatsu are spent watching yumomi performances at the Netsu no Yu performance hall and soaking in the town's distinctive acid spring.
