About
The Okura Tokyo is one of the most historically significant hotels in Japan — the original 1962 Main Building, designed by architect Yoshiro Taniguchi, was a pioneering expression of Japanese modernism that influenced hotel design worldwide. Rebuilt and reopened in 2019 by his son Yoshio Taniguchi (architect of MoMA New York), the new Okura Heritage Wing faithfully recreates the spirit of the original: hexagonal ceiling lanterns, shoji screens, and the distinctive 'Okura pattern' textile throughout. The service culture derives directly from ryokan hospitality traditions, with staff training rooted in omotenashi (selfless hospitality). A uniquely Japanese luxury experience in the heart of Tokyo.
