Takemori Ryokan is a small family-run inn at Haemi on Iriomote Island, a few minutes by car from Ohara Port. It sits by the Nakama River, the mangrove-lined estuary that most of the island's kayak and boat tours start from, and rooms look towards the river mouth and bridge (Jalan, Expedia listings). Meals are home-style Okinawan cooking. This is a plain, inexpensive base for Iriomote's jungle and river rather than a resort: expect simple rooms, free parking and Wi-Fi. Ohara Port is about 35 to 45 minutes by ferry from Ishigaki.
