Kannawa Onsen Motoyunoyado Kurodaya is a Showa-era onsen hotel in the Kannawa district of Beppu, Oita, the part of town where steam rises from the streets and the Beppu hells are a short walk away. The inn has around 50 rooms, most of them Japanese-Western in style with a tatami sitting area and beds. The large bath on the first floor has a rock-lined indoor pool, an outdoor bath, a sauna and a cold plunge, all fed by free-flowing spring water. It is a practical base for exploring Kannawa on foot, including the Jigokumushi Kobo steam-cooking workshop, at a lower price than the district's garden ryokans.
