Luggage: send it ahead

Kinosaki’s inns are a walk from the station or reached by shared buses run by the Kinosaki Onsen Ryokan Association, so a case is manageable there. To skip carrying it on the Konotori and the Arima bus, send it from the Kinosaki inn on arrival day by Yamato’s TA-Q-BIN, which delivers in a day or two, to your Arima inn. Questions

Is the Kansai WIDE Area Pass worth it for Kinosaki?

On this loop, yes, if you start it on the Nara day: Nara and back, Kyoto to Kinosaki and Kinosaki to Osaka cost ¥12,950 in single fares, against ¥12,000 for the 5-day pass. For Kinosaki alone, there and back from Kyoto, it does not pay.

How do I get from Kyoto to Kinosaki Onsen?

By the JR limited express Kinosaki, about 2 hours 20 to 35 minutes, ¥5,370 in the normal season. Only four a day run all the way to Kinosaki Onsen, and every seat is reserved.

How do I get from Kinosaki to Arima Onsen?

By the Konotori to Osaka, 2 hours 39 to 44 minutes for ¥6,140, then the Hankyu Kanko bus from Osaka Umeda, about an hour for ¥1,400.

Do Kinosaki ryokan guests get into the public baths free?

Usually. Guests are normally given a pass to all the public bathhouses at check-in, but confirm with your inn. Day visitors pay ¥1,500 for a one-day pass or ¥800 for a single entry.

When is the best time for this loop?

From November to March for Kinosaki’s snow crab, which opens on 6 November, or mid-November for autumn colour in Kyoto and Arima. Book Kyoto first in cherry blossom and autumn colour seasons.
