About
Kannawaen is a garden ryokan in the Kannawa district of Beppu, Oita, about 100 metres from the Hells of Beppu. Rooms are set around a large Japanese garden with views over the city, and every room has its own spring-water bath. The grounds hold two hot spring baths, two restaurants and a bar, and the whole property is non-smoking. With about 50 rooms it is larger than most garden ryokans, but the layout keeps it quiet, and the location puts the Kannawa steam vents and the hells within a few minutes' walk.
