Funaya is one of the two or three most prestigious inns at Dogo Onsen, the Matsuyama hot spring that claims a 3,000-year history and the title of Japan's oldest. The inn itself has about 390 years of history and has hosted members of the Imperial family (Japan Cheapo, Selected Onsen Ryokan). It has hot spring baths, a Japanese garden and a sauna, and rooms range from classic tatami to suites. Dogo Onsen Station, the tram terminus from central Matsuyama, is a few minutes on foot, and the Dogo Onsen Honkan bathhouse is in the same street grid.
