Ichinobo is an 86-room inn at Sakunami Onsen in the hills west of Sendai, with three spring sources and eight baths (IKYU, Good Luck Trip). The one to go for is the Hirose River headwater open-air bath, four rock pools of different depths and temperatures set against the river, with a mugwort steam room beside it. Some rooms have open-air baths, terraces with hammocks and private saunas. Dinner is a live buffet, and there is a salon with a fireplace. It is a resort rather than a small inn, and the river bath is the reason. Sendai Station is about 40 minutes by car or shuttle.
