About
Hakone Kowakien TEN-YU opened in April 2017 in the Kowakudani area of Hakone. It has 150 rooms, all with a private open-air onsen bath facing either the mountains or the forested valley. Two large public baths add to the in-room bathing: Ukigumo, an infinity-edge hot spring bath, and Kurumazawa, set beside a waterfall. Guests have free entry to Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, the hot spring amusement park next door, which suits families with children. Dining includes the Geihinkan restaurant for teppanyaki and shabu-shabu. Hakone-Yumoto is about 90 minutes from Shinjuku, and the inn is reached from there by the Hakone Tozan Railway or by bus to the Kowakien stop. At 150 rooms this is a large resort rather than a small inn, so expect hotel-scale facilities and service.
